• Question: What role, if any, will Ai have in healthcare?

      This will be a fascinating area… AI is already playing a role assisting the interpretation of x-rays, MRI scans etc and helping the clinician focus on the most complex cases.

      I doubt AI will replace doctors generally, but it will increasingly assist in narrowing down the diagnosis options etc. I think we will always want to hear the diagnosis from a human though.

      In research, AI has made huge strides in areas like protein folding and genetics – I’m hopeful it will help the medical research community make even faster progress.

      Likely advisory and mechanical. AI can be used to help detect diseases from scans, but it will never have the ability to accurately do so without humans. AI could also be used to attempt surgeries given the right information from humans. We’re not yet at a stage where AI is 100% accurate and likely will never be, even human doctors make mistakes. Already AI is helping to detect diagnoses such as eye cancer.

      AI is already being used in MRI scanning to improve image quality and allow the scans to be done more quickly. This gives a better experience for patients and allows us to scan more patients too.

      I believe in healthcare will have the role as a very important tool for us to use. It could be used to spot cancers early or even help prevent them in the first place. It could relieve the pressure on the NHS by producing answers quickly and couls help us cure many more diseases.

      It is already used in many places already from helping to create new drugs to spotting some cancers. The future is exciting.
