As a medical engineer, my specific role now is in developing components for treating broken bones, but I used to work in repairing all kinds of medical equipment at a hospital. I also love learning about stuff! Because of that I went on to doing postgraduate studies until I completed a PhD.
When at home, I’m either gardening, reading, or watching anime (cartoons)! I learn a whole lot from doing these things all of these things, even from cartoons!
Also, I’m Arab, from a country called Syria. So, I can speak English, but Arabic is my original language.

My Work:
I’m called a Product Development Engineer!

As a product development engineer, my job is to go through a design or a medical component and make sure it’s safe and that people who are going to use it are going to be happy with it. To do this, I work with many smart people. Together we make a team and help each other solve all kinds of engineering problems.
My special power is using a computer to do complicated maths and predict how a component will act if we tried to break it on purpose! -
My Typical Day:
In a typical day, I’d be reading many documents and running experiments on my computer.

My typical day consists of helping my friends at work who often come to me with problems and questions (as I do too!).
I go through documents and drawings and send them out for people to sign them! Also, I run many experiments on my computer and then analyse the results and share them with team members. So, they can use my results in their work!

What I'd do with the prize money:
I would donate it to my kids’ school, with an agreement with them to provide some coding and/or computing resources, such as tablets, a programmable lego set, development boards and associated components, introductory coding books, etc.
I can even volunteer tutoring interested teachers and students on weekends, using these resources.

Education:
I went to school abroad, in Saudi Arabia to be specific!
There, the educational path is set to 6 years of primary school, 3 years of middle school then finally 3 more years of high school. After finishing school I travelled to a country called (Jordan), where I went to university and got a Bachelor Degree in Medical Engineering. In Jordan, an engineering degree needs at least 5 years, I struggled a bit so did it in 6 and 1/2 years.
Then, I went back to Saudi Arabia where I worked at a company as a Service Engineer. At that company I used to fix medical lasers. From there I moved to another country called (United Arab Emirate), where I worked at a hospital and used to fix many different kinds of medical equipment.
Then, I travelled all the way to the United Kingdom, where I did a Master of Science in Medical Engineering course at the University of Leeds. Then, sometime after I finished that, I went back to the University of Leeds through a full scholarship from the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council, and did an Integrated Master and PhD in Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine – Innovation in Medical and Biological Engineering. While doing my first Masters, I worked as a Personal Tutor, where I taught and Arabic and Islamic studies, biomechanics, and some maths. I also volunteered as a Patient Research Ambassador at the Renal Department at the Northern General Hospital in Sheffield at the time.
During the integrated Masters and PhD, I worked for a few years as a Laboratory Demonstrator at the university, where I helped students learn mechanical simulations. I also published a scientific article about my PhD work.
Finally, I became a Product Development Engineer at a company called Invibio (also named Victrex), and will soon finish my PhD.

2-Master of Science (MSc.)
3-Integrated MSc. and PhD (Expected finish in July 2024)
