About Me:
Hello! I live in Newcastle UK and I love it. I am originally from Tunisia and I sometimes miss its weather. I am also full time earthquake engineer. Besides of earthquakes, I love to sing (all the time) and swim!

I have always been interested in science, since a very early age. I used to watch documentaries about the universe and the physics of it but also about natural hazards such as earthquakes and volcanoes. Growing up, I obtained my A-level in Tunisia in maths and physics, then worked hard for two years to prepare for entrance to an engineering school in Geophysics in France. I discovered that they had a seismology module and since then, I have been fascinated even more by earthquakes!
I moved to Glasgow to do a PhD (Doctor of Philosophy) degree in earthquake engineering and secured a job after that.

My Work:
In my job, I study earthquakes and ground shaking. My job is to assess the seismic hazard to help civil engineer design buildings that can resist an earthquake!

To assess the chance of an earthquake happening at a specific location or region, we look into the geology of the area, we get information on all the past earthquakes and we investigate the ground to know more about its properties and how it affects any shaking coming from a nearby or far earthquake. We use computing science skills and software as we usually deal with many data. Some software also help us mimic (simulate) earthquakes.

My Typical Day:
I wake up at 6:30, make a coffee and start work at 7. My job is very flexible so as long as I do 8 hours daily, I can start and finish when I want.
I mostly work from home as my team is based in London. I then start to delve into any projects or tasks I have. It can be simulating earthquakes, doing calculations, or even writing reports to summarise our findings.
When I finish at 4pm, I take some time to rest and go have a walk with my fiance!
