I was looking at jobs through a company called the “Bright Network”, who have a great listing of graduate jobs and internships! https://www.brightnetwork.co.uk/
When I was at university there was an event known as a “milk round” where companies would come to the university and talk about their graduate intake schemes – think of it as just like a careers fair. I applied through that.
I don’t think such things happen nowadays as a lot of this has moved online. Interestingly enough one place to look is https://www.milkround.com/
The job I have now was created entirely by myself after I started my own consultancy for 3D printing. This was after working for other companies in this sector for about 12 years, which itself was after working in several other industries for many years. For me, one of the best things about being a scientist and an engineer is the ease of changing jobs.
I took a common route for many students, following from GCSE to A-level and finally University. Most universities offer the chance to do a placement year, which is a paid year in industry that you apply for and work full time! If you are considering taking this traditional route, I highly recommend you read up on placement years and consider doing one at University.
