Currently, the most important thing for me to do is get as much experience in as many different areas as possible. I’m on a graduate scheme, so I get to rotate around the company and experience loads of different things, so at the end I know what I like best, and what I’m best at doing!
Listening. I can talk about my research for ever and ever but genuinely listening to what the other person has to say has been so helpful. It has helped me get new projects, new opportunities and to really understand what is happening.
The most important part of cyber is the ability to communicate. You could be the brainiest person in the room but that doesn’t matter if you can’t explain to marketing why they shouldn’t partner with certain companies, if you can’t explain to finance why they shouldn’t send your bank details through email, if you can’t explain to an office worker why they shouldn’t share their password. Training makes the difference and so does the way you communicate with others. If you can explain to someone the rights and wrongs alongside why, they’re more likely to listen and follow along!
