• Question: When did you get into a computer scientist

      In school (around year 8 or 9 I think), we had a lesson on scratch. This is a computer program where you can code in blocks.
      This got me interested in coding and from there, I decided I wanted to do ICT at GCSE and then computer science at A level.

      I liked computers when I was younger but didn’t really get into being a computer scientist until university. I originally went to study physics and be researcher. But I really enjoyed the software and technology side of things more so switched to programming and control systems.

      I always had an interest in technology, but what really made me pursue it was my experience at GCSEs. I found that I enjoyed the topic and ended up pursuing it at A-levels and later University. This caused me to gain my current role which I truly enjoy!

    My first computer was in 1983 when I was a kid. I learned BASIC on it, and taught myself programming. I then did Computer Science in University and learned Pascal, C, Ada. I then started work on the IBM mainframe, and wrote in COBOL, Rexx, Assembler. Now I write in Python, C++, High-Level Assember. Mainframes rock! They are so powerful, never crash, but are big and expensive!
