I am a lecturer and researcher in both experimental psychology and engineering departments. I am particularly interested in how children develop and how we can help support children and young people to reach their potential. I am currently working on a clinical trial where we are testing if virtual reality can help children with cochlear implants to hear better in space. If you are deaf you may be offered a cochlear implant (in one or two ears) to help you hear sounds but it can be difficult to work out where a sound is coming from. The virtual reality games may be able to train you to work out where a sound is coming from (to hear better in 3D space) – and this is what we are testing!

My day usually starts early and and I start work before 8am, with some of my work online. I might teach a seminar in the morning, join meetings, have lunch with colleagues and do some research in the afternoon, before heading home in the evening. Sometimes I get to go out and meet the public to talk about research and hear what they want us to do!
