I actually went to university to study Primary Teaching, and worked as a teacher for a couple years in Oxford. While I enjoyed teaching, I felt that it wasn\’t quite right for me so I decided to learn to code with the help of a 16 week course. I think this is important to mention as if you\’re unsure about what to do after school, or what to study at university, you can always change your mind. I think the most important thing is to keep moving in a good direction; doing what you love and are good at, as well as taking opportunities that arise from you doing the things that you enjoy. Anyway, more about my current job. I am software developer, which means I write code to create (you guessed it) software. My current job is amazing and I especially love that my work will have a positive impact on the environment. I\’m helping to build an web-based app (a fancy website) called Landarna that is used by landowners to learn more about their land and make more sustainable choices about what they decide to use it for.

My Typical Day:
I wake up around 7.30am, get myself some granola and coffee, and start work at 9. I work through tasks and review others\’ tasks. I have lunch with my friends before spending the afternoon continuing with tasks or having planning meetings. I finish work at 5.30pm.

I wake up around 7.30, although if I\’m working from home this might be later (I still love a lie-in!). I\’ll make myself a coffee and grab a bowl of cereal which I\’ll have at my desk as my work starts from 9am. I\’ll work on ongoing tasks, review other people\’s work, or start new tasks across the day. I sometimes have meetings to, where I\’ll share my work with the rest of the team or plan for the future. I get an hour for lunch – if I\’m in the office I might treat myself to a burrito, pie and mash, or katsu chicken bowl (I\’m lucky to live somewhere with loads of choice!). I finish work at 5.30pm, and will head to the gym before walking or getting the bus home.
