In physics, time travel refers to moving forward or backward through time in a way that’s different from how we normally experience it, second by second. According to Einstein’s theory of relativity, time isn’t absolute, it can move faster or slower depending on how fast you’re going or how strong gravity is. This means time travel to the future is actually possible, if you travel close to the speed of light, time would pass more slowly for you than for someone on Earth, so you could return having aged less, a real effect called time dilation. Travelling back in time is much more complicated and isn’t known to be possible, though some theories like wormholes suggest it might be under extreme conditions. So while we can’t build a time machine yet, physics shows that time travel, at least to the future, is real and already happens on a tiny scale with satellites and astronauts.
