Question: Tell us more about your work in the Aerospace and Defence industry... What advices would you give to someone who's interested in that industry ???
I actually found myself in the industry almost accidentally. I wasn’t looking for a new job at the time, but I got chatting to someone on the train, they asked about my job and ended up taking my CV. They emailed me with some job openings, I applied and got the job. In the software industry, writing code is just writing code – it’s the subject matter that differentiates one role from the next.
The main thing to understand is that there are a huge variety of jobs in the ‘aerospace and defence’ industry. In engineering alone, you could be a software engineer, a structural engineer, a mechanical engineer, a safety engineer, an airworthiness engineer or any one of many other specialists. The best advice I would give would be to study what you are interested in, follow something you are passionate about and in my experience opportunities will find you (as long as you are open to them!)
