Much as I hate to say it, GCSEs are the basis for many people deciding whether to give you an entry job or not so in that sense all careers do. However, remember that if you go to college and do A-Levels or an equivalent, then once you finish there people will only ask you about these and NOT your GCSEs. If you go to university then no-one cares about A-levels. In that sense, GCSEs are just a stepping stone to get you to the next level and nothing more than that
Any career really – how you do in your GCSE’s can help shape your path forward.
If you want to do further education e.g study to be a doctor, they are very important and shows your academic ability so far.
Some apprenticeships will ask for a certain number of GCSEs but other careers with more hands on work put less importance on academic results.
Once you start working or gain certification (A-Levels, graduate university), your GCSEs won’t matter and it will be more about your post-GCSE experience.
GCSEs are the starting point for what’s next – they open the door for the next round of opportunities, be that apprenticeships, a-levels, university or just starting work.
