I took 11 GCSEs in total, some of which were mandatory and some were chosen.

Mandatory: Higher mathematics, English literature, English language, Triple Science (Physics, Biology, Chemistry)
Requirements: A language and humanity. I chose German and History and took Polish too as that was an option.
Chosen: I was able to choose Computer Science and Product Design.

If you are pursuing Computing, the most important subjects are mathematics and English as employers will require it as a minimum! You do not have to take GCSE Computer Science, though it can help you greatly at A-level and later in University studies.
