I was looking into careers in quantum mechanics or particle physics (both very interesting fields) but I realised that I was motivated more by using my scientific knowledge and skills to directly benefit patients. I discovered healthcare science and I knew it was perfect for me. There are lots of different branches to specialise in healthcare science but MRI Physics interested me the most as it uses magnets and complicated science (which keeps me interested scientifically) and doesn’t give the patient an ionising radiation dose like x-ray or CT. Lots of interesting research areas too so I get a nice balance between routine clinical work and research to bring in new technology into the NHS
